The annual event on the first Saturday in June is a chance to get outdoors, connect with your community, and enjoy outdoor activities. Campers will have the chance to study macroinvertebrates up close, create a craft, and play in the stream—the perfect way to beat the summer heat! Kids should wear clothing and closed-toed shoes that can get wet (or a second pair of socks and shoes), and bring a towel. For ages 7–12. Allison-Antrim Museum  will hold its monthly speaker meeting on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in the German Bank Barn beginning at 7 p.m.  The facility is wheelchair accessible.

Historian Roger Swartz will present a PowerPoint on John Brown’s raid of Harper’s Ferry 167 years ago on October 18, 1859.  How did Brown’s men take over Harper’s Ferry and the Federal arsenal. Find out how the U.S. Marines, under the command of Army Col. Robert E. Lee, subdued the short-lived rebellion and hear about the sensational trial and Brown’s last days in Charles Town, Virginia (now West Virginia).

Roger Swartz, Keedysville, MD, is owner of R.G. Swartz & Associates, offering historical services, workshop offerings, and historical products to educational institutions and historical organizations. He and his wife reside in Keedysville, MD.

Swartz is author of two nationally acclaimed books dealing with the frontier history of Pennsylvania during the American Revolution: Frankstown: Anatomy of an Ambush and The Battle of Fort Freeland, July 28, 1779.

There is no admission fee for the speaker’s meeting, but donations are greatly appreciated and will be credited toward Allison-Antrim Museum’s annual speakers’ series.

Description: Learn about the different movement patterns that you flow through during activities of daily living (ADL's), work, and sport. Part of the EXPLORE series of outdoor adventure programs for kids in grades K to 5, presented by Buttonwood Nature Center. Did you know a bug is different from an insect? Come learn all about insects in our Summer Explore series! We will go on a hike to look for insects and record what we see in nature journals. We will also create our own insects and build “bug hotels” that participants can take home to hang in their yard! Fee: $8 member of Buttonwood Nature Center; $10 general public. Also offered on August 13. Spend the day with Buttonwood educators as you explore the wonders of water! Campers will have the chance to study macroinvertebrates up close, create a craft, and play in the stream—the perfect way to beat the summer heat! Please remember to wear sunscreen and pack lunch/snacks and lots of water. Kids should wear clothing and closed-toed shoes that can get wet (or a second pair of socks and shoes), and bring a towel. For ages 7–12. The 59th Annual Greencastle Sidewalk Days is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 10 & 11. This two-day event runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. G-ACC is looking forward to two great days of activities, food, and entertainment! We hope you can join us!

Races begin at Chambersburg Area Middle School and end at Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

Why We Run/Walk:
Tim E. Cook and Susan M. Cook were both 49 when they died on December 13, 2002 as a result of a car accident. Both were 1971 graduates of Chambersburg Area School District. Tim was a mathematics teacher at the high school for 28 years and was the coach of the girls’ cross country and track teams. Susan was an administrative assistant at Shippensburg University. Money raised from this race is contributed to the Tim and Susan Cook Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of the Cooks and in honor of their dedication to education.

Why One Mile:
There are not many 1 mile races - so why 1 mile for this race? Tim Cook, a 1971 graduate of CASD, was the first state champion runner from the school. While he championed in the 2 mile race, he loved the mile race. The event founders believe that a 1 mile race would appeal to runners, joggers and walkers of all levels. The Cooks were a deeply caring and and kind couple, and always worked to include and support everyone to be their best, regardless of ability. Holding the race down McKinley Avenue also brings the participants down the same path where Coach Cook logged so many miles over the years, literally following in his footsteps and finishing at the school where he dedicated himself to teaching and coaching.

The entire community is invited to register for this race in memory of the Cooks, regardless if you run a 3 minute mile or walk a 30 minute mile. Proceeds benefit a scholarship in the Cooks' honor to continue their dedication to education and drive to give everyone the opportunity to be their best!

For students completing grade 3 through age 17. Textiles instruction from a Buttonwood educator who is a master weaver and textiles expert. Students learn skills with textiles such as wet and dry felting and weaving as they create several projects. After a lunch break, campers will enjoy a hike and different nature activities as we connect textiles to nature. All materials included in the camp fee, and each student will take home their completed projects. Students should pack a lunch and beverage. For students completing grade 3 through age 17. A Discover series program combining earth science, geology, archaeology and history. Students explore the secrets of a 200-year-old homestead and how its environment influenced early settlers. Offered in partnership with Little Antietam Creek, Inc. (LACI). Students join Buttonwood educators and LACI archaeologists to “dig into the past” at historic Stoner Farm—digging and working with artifacts, scientific testing of the properties of limestone and soil, using remote sensing, learning how limestone is cut, and mortar is made, and more. Participants will learn how to focus binoculars, keep a field journal, and identify bird songs. There will be a short activity to practice using binoculars, followed by a bird walk and a fun craft. During this 2-day summer camp at Orvis Hill Country, campers will learn fly fishing essentials like gear and knots, fly tying, plus freshwater biology and aquatic “critters.” Day one is macro lesson and intro to fly fishing, day two is tying flies and practicing on the pond. The fee is $115 for members of Buttonwood Nature Center, and $120 for the general public. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required by July 17. The 8th Annual Puzzle Mania is on its way! Get ready for another year of fast-paced puzzling fun with our “Back to School” themed challenges! Expect all things school- detentions, pop quizzes, brain breaks, team superlative awards, and a few extra add-ons to make sure you’re fully prepared for class. 

All proceeds benefit the LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council, supporting adult education and literacy initiatives in our local community.

This year, there are only 25 team spots available. Tickets sell out fast, so start recruiting your four-person team NOW and reserve your table today! 

THE COMPETITION

The Goal: Every team of four starts with the exact same jigsaw puzzle. The first team to finish wins!

The Team: 4 players per team (Ages 18+). Team members must remain the same throughout the event.

The "Mania":  Want to slow down the competition? Pay $10 to slow down another team for 3 minutes in a variety of entertaining ways! The more teams you challenge, the better your odds.

The Bribe: Is a team targeting you? Pay a $10 "Bribe" to skip the challenge and keep your momentum going!

Note: Challenges/Bribes can be paid via Cash or PayPal.

REGISTRATION & COST

Price: $25 per person | $100 per team of four.

Equipment: To keep things fair, no outside sorting trays or puzzle tables are permitted, UNLESS you purchase them as ad-ons via our online registration form.

Food & Drink: Available for purchase at the Marine Corps League. Must be 21+ with a valid ID to purchase alcohol.

How do I register? 

Complete the Puzzle Mania Team Registration Form. To pay by cash or check, please make checks payable to LIU12 Franklin County Literacy Council. You can mail or drop off your payment at our office: 518 Cleveland Ave., Suite 1A, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Regular office hours are M-Th, 9-3 and Fridays by appointment.

Is team registration refundable? 

Since this is a fundraiser, we do not offer refunds. However, if you can’t make it, you may sell or gift your registration to someone else. Please notify us of the name change at least 24 hours before the event begins.

What about parking and accessibility? 

The Landis-McCleaf Marine Corps League offers on-site parking and handicapped parking. The venue is fully handicapped accessible.

Greencastle Antrim (GA250) Alumni Band Concert and Pageant Play celebrating America's 250th Anniversary will be held on Thursday, September 24 and Saturday, September 26, 2026 beginning at 7:00 P.M. each night in the Shockey Family Center for Performing Arts auditorium at Greencastle-Antrim High School, South Ridge Avenue.

An evening of patriotic music, narration, and pageant plays depicting Greencastle's local history over the past 250 years. 

A free will offering will benefit the Allison Antrim Museum and WRGG, Good Companion Radio.
