Jirard is a Professor of Criminal Justice at Shippensburg University. Prior to teaching\, Professor Jirard was a Lieutenant in the US Navy's Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps\, worked at the US Department of Justice in the Civil Division (Torts Branch)\, was in Boston both a Federal Prosecutor and a Federal Public Defender\, and served as a Death-Penalty Defense Attorney in Columbia\, Missouri. Ms. Jirard recently served for two years as the University's Chief Diversity Officer and now speaks widely on issues related to social justice.
