DESCRIPTION:Allison-Antrim Museum\, 365 South Ridge Avenue\, Greencastle\, Pennsylvania 17225 will hold its monthly speaker meeting on Thursday\, February 8\, 2024\, in the German Bank Barn beginning at 7 p.m.  The facility is wheelchair accessible.\n\nFebruary is Black History Month\, and we welcome Dr. Emilie Amt as speaker. What was the Civil War like for the thousands of African Americans\, free and enslaved\, who lived in southern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland? This talk will explore their experiences as civilians\, the challenges\, and dangers they faced\, and how life changed for them during the war. Copies of Dr. Amt's book will be available for sale and signing after the talk.\n\nDr. Emilie Amt is an award-winning writer of African American history in western Maryland and an emeritus professor of history at Hood College in Frederick\, Maryland. Her most recent book is Black Antietam: African Americans and the Civil War in Sharpsburg. She lives in Hagerstown and is currently writing a book about slavery in Washington County.\n\nThe Museum is open regularly Tuesday to Friday\, noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday\, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Please stop by to see the artwork of these talented Greencastle-Antrim high school juniors and seniors.\n\nShould inclement weather be an issue\, notification will be posted on AAMuseum's website at greencastlemuseum.org.\n\nThere is no admission fee\, but donations are greatly appreciated.
