Spend the evening of September 17th at the Conococheague Institute (CI) and help us raise needed funds to support our impactful educational programming and assist our stewardship of this amazing landscape.
The Conococheague Institute is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization registered in PA and MD, serving communities across the Tri-State region (EIN 25-1763245).
CI offers weekly free programs for visitors, low-cost educational bookings for schools and camps, and special events throughout the year - all highlighting 18th century life in Pennsylvania and our commitment to honoring the environment through such initiatives as tree planting and wetlands preservation.
Single tickets start at $35 for members ($45 for non-members). If you are able, we invite you to purchase higher-priced tickets which will provide additional funds for CI's important educational programming - and provide YOU with a bigger tax deduction!
All ticket holders will enjoy a BBQ meal from Hicksville Barbecue, one cup of a Gearhouse Brewing Co historic ale (brewed especially for us!), live music from Cormorant's Fancy, raffle prizes, and games to keep you entertained all evening long. Additional beer and wine will be available for sale.
Set on a rural historic farm, you'll be transported to the 18th century with log buildings and costumed performers to immerse you in some frontier fun. Step into a recreated tavern and take a seat for a game of whist, play some table games with a rake, or test your mind with some Colonial riddles. Lit by candlelight and fires in hearths and pits, it's not hard to imagine that you've stepped into the past. For those looking for more vigorous fun, take up a bat and ball and try a game of cricket. Music by Cormorant's Fancy will delight as they play music from Ireland, Scotland, and other Celtic nations, as well as Appalachian, Old Time, and other traditional American folk music.
Gearhouse Brewing Co has taken a page from the history book, and recreated an authentic historic ale for ticket holders to try. 18th century tastebuds were a little different from our own, so there will be plenty of quality modern craft beers to purchase in addition to the historic sampler.
A frontier cabin with a fire in the hearth makes a welcome repose, and will be inhabited throughout the evening for those who enjoy some quieter conversation away from the hubbub.
Taverns were a place of community celebration in the 18th century, and games, food, drink and song will all be present during this evening fundraiser, which will raise money to support CI's quality educational programs. Be sure to buy tickets for the raffles, 50/50's, and bid on a unique haberdasher auction, where you could leave with your very own Tricorn Hat!
