Project Superintendent

CVBA is a partnership between the Chambersburg and Greencastle-Antrim chambers of commerce.

The Project Superintendent is responsible for and held accountable for the timely completion of the projects assigned and ensures that the project is done in accordance with plans, specifications, and all applicable codes. Schedules all subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants, and ensures their completion of work within the allowed time.  Responsible for coordinating and directing the work in the field and ensuring the work is done in accordance with plans and specifications, and that work is proceeding on schedule and within budget.  Establishes and enforces job site quality control and guarantees quality completion of construction project.  Responsible for enforcing job site safety in conjunction with our Safety Department.  Directs and provides guidance to the site workers and heavy equipment operators. Must be experienced in and capable of operating heavy equipment associated with the industry. CDL is preferred, but is not required. The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work required to be performed on a regular basis by someone in this position, but is not intended to be an exhaustive list of every responsibility and activity required of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes, supervises, leads and trains employees to complete projects within established guidelines and time frames

  • Ensures the project job site has all its materials, permits, supplies, equipment, and labor

  • Enforces all Company, job site, and client-required safety policies and procedures

  • Complies with all Company policies and procedures and safety requirements, including discipline and documentation

  • Submits timesheets to payroll in a timely manner and complies with deadlines

  • Attends company operation and safety meetings and training sessions as assigned and required

  • Conducts regular Toolbox safety meetings and documents as required

  • Reads and follows plans, material listings, and guidelines and applies necessary timelines

  • Calculates the required quantity and size of pipe, connectors, topsoil, fill, waste, stone, and backfill materials to ensure work efficiency

  • Ensure that all tools necessary for the job are on site and available for safe use, and that workers are properly trained on usage

  • Ensures that utilities are located, and if utility locates are not marked or cannot be defined, follows proper procedures before allowing digging to be done

  • Read, identify, and understand blueprints related to all above and below ground utilities and excavations, and ensure that blueprints are up to date, and able to read grade stakes

  • Understands how to manage the scope of work for the project and completes all related and required paperwork

  • May be responsible for more than one project at one time and able to manage multiple groups of workers while ensuring the safety of the teams and needs of the job site

  • Ability to work with and/or oversee assigned job site subcontractors

  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies while promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices

  • Inform and advise management of needed major repairs or maintenance

  • Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored

  • Perform all duties in accordance with appropriate safety and security standards

  • Conducts on-site inspections to ensure safe procedures are being followed

  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and be able to travel to job sites

  • 3 – 5 years as a Project Superintendent is required

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of excavation industry specifications and practices

  • 3+ years of experience supervising crews on earth-moving and utility projects including sanitary, storm and waterline installation

  • Able to read and understand project plans, specifications, calculate slopes, percentages, elevations, as well as knowledge of the materials, equipment and tools necessary to lay out and complete the work

  • Problem solving and strong analytical skills that can be applied to resolving issues in the field

  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the excavation trade

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce workplace safety procedures and practices

  • Know both manual and electronic operations of heavy equipment

  • Have the ability to understand, remember, and follow work related instructions or procedures
