Elementary Student Assistance Program (SAP) Liaison/Education Coordination 

Liaison/Educator should have knowledge of:

  • local child-serving systems
  • child and adolescent mental health
  • procedures for accessing local resources for students and families
  • the school culture and SAP-related school policies and procedures for teams to which they are assigned
  • student assistance program policies and procedures
  • crisis intervention
  • suicide prevention and intervention
  • screening procedures
 
Liaison/Educator should have skills in:
  • working with parents, students and school personnel
  • serving as advocates for parents/caregivers and students in the healthcare system
  • accessing local resources
  • consulting with school and community child-serving professionals
 
Responsibilities may include:
  • attending SAP core team meetings at assigned schools
  • consulting with teams for interventions and assisting parents in accessing the appropriate services
  • brief screenings of children referred to SAP
  • communication and assistance to parents to connect families to necessary resources
  • participating in team maintenance
  • providing in-service and program updates
  • facilitating and supporting school-based aftercare plans
  • facilitating and assisting with postvention efforts
  • facilitating  or co-facilitating student education and support groups in schools (K-12)
  • providing follow-up with parents and students
  • assisting schools in promotion of SAP program to faculty, staff, students, parents, and community members
  • drug/alcohol prevention education in schools and community organizations
 
Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel. Travel is required to meetings, conferences, or other activities as needed to complete duties and work related to the coalition. Travel will be reimbursed at the federal mileage rate.
 
Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in public health, social work, or related field such as health education, community organization. Experience working with youth (especially at-risk youth). Ability to work independently; strong public relations skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
