Healthy Communities Partnership has an opening for a Check & Connect Mentor. This position will be 35-40 hours per week during the school year (mid-August through mid-June) with limited summer hours if desired. Check & Connect Mentors build relationships with their assigned students, have a long-term commitment to these students, and work with persistence to support students through working with the kids, their parents, and schools. Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelors degree
- experience in human services or education field
- experience working with youth in upper elementary, middle, or high school ages
- experience in a school setting preferred
Knowledge of:
- educational system and attendance laws
- child and adolescent mental health
- motivational techniques
Skills in:
- working with and engaging students
- assisting students with goal-setting and decision-making skills
- accessing local resources
- communicating with teachers and school staff
- working with and engaging parents
Additional responsibilities include:
- making a two-year commitment with assigned students
- interacting with a variety of ages (4th-9th grades)
- using the Check & Connect model to engage students and work on goal-setting while approving attendance and school engagement, as well as academic performance and behavior
- assisting in data collection and analysis
- provide other programs for HCP as needed
