Description
Allison-Antrim Museum, 365 South Ridge Avenue, Greencastle, Pennsylvania 17225 will hold its monthly speaker meeting on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the German Bank Barn beginning at 7 p.m. The facility is wheelchair accessible.
The book Sylvester Snyder’s Waynesboro is a collection of nearly three hundred photographs made by mechanical and civil engineer Sylvester S. Snyder (1907–2006) between 1937 and 1988. Through these pictures of ordinary citizens engaged in their routine activities, the award-winning amateur photographer chronicled the history of his native Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.
With an artistic eye, a sense of history, and an undying attention to detail, Sylvester Snyder captured for posterity the scenes of a busy industrial town surrounded by beautiful countryside. He snapped schools, churches, factories, farms, bridges, roads, mills, streams, circuses, athletic events, celebrations, parades, and such wholesome events as clothesline art exhibits and soapbox derbies which today are but distant memories. The scenes were photographed in daylight, nighttime, snow, fog, rain, and sunshine with equally excellent results.
Sylvester Snyder’s Waynesboro includes a modicum of text written by editor T. A. Dorsett. The focus is rather on the pictures and the people, places, and events they represent.
The 144-page book published by Antietam Historical Association, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, 2023 will be available for purchase at the meeting. The cost is $49.95 plus tax.
There is no admission fee, but donations are greatly appreciated. For more information, please visit greencastlemuseum.org or on Facebook.
