This program is made possible through a grant from the Mechanicsburg Area Community Foundation, a regional Foundation of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities.
Overview: As aging seniors go through landmark ages - 60, 70, 80 - the agility of their body and mind decrease. Memory loss is greatly impacted at these stages. This can bring about feelings of fear, anxiety and anger. This training will discuss support and understanding of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. We will explore disruptions in memory such as simple forgetfulness to life altering interruptions in memory loss for aging adults with dementia. The loss of memory in Mild Cognitive Impairment will also be discussed.
Objectives:
- Understand the definition of Dementia and Alzheimer’s
- Understand the effectiveness of communication
- Understand the definition of memory and its function
- Explore memory loss in aging adults
- Understand the difference between normal memory loss versus memory loss in dementia
- Discuss the impact of Mild Cognitive Impairment on memory
- Improve their skills for engaging aging adults with dementia through tips & suggestions
Alexia Doumbouya is currently a training facilitator & curriculum developer (Temple Univ, Cheyney Univ & School District of Philadelphia) and Current Director of Operations (Customer Service, Quality & Retention) in Philadelphia. She has 13 years of training, communication & business management experience with onsite and virtual trainings on such topics relating to communicating and engaging aging adults.
Alexia has developed & designed various training & workshop curriculum, workbooks, Stand Operating Procedure manuals, Digital Marketing Plans, Coaching process flow and tools. Also, she has ensured operational compliance with Federal regulations i.e., Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), HIPPA, HITECH. She is also knowledgeable about health care reform and The Affordable Care Act.
Alexia is working with PennCares in developing trainings encompassing older adults and issues surrounding behavioral health aspects, especially within the topic of dementia. She provides expert trainings to direct care staff with a focus on practical interventions strategies and reducing frustration or fatigue in caregiver rolls. She is certified in Mental Health Awareness and is presently working on her master’s degree with Trident University.
