The Residential Excavation Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising excavation activities for DHM’s residential construction projects, whether large or small. This includes site preparation, grading, trenching, utilities installation coordination, and ensuring compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
- Manage all phases of residential excavation projects from the pre-construction stage through completion of the project.
- Review plans, specifications, and soil reports to determine project requirements.
- Ability to calculate estimates for customers and create and submit them to the customer.
- Coordinate with general contractors, builders, engineers, surveyors, and subcontractors.
- Schedule work crews, heavy equipment, and materials in a timely manner and efficiently.
- Oversee site preparation tasks such as clearing, grading, trenching, and foundation excavation.
- Be able to operate DHM’s heavy equipment onsite as needed – mainly 953 and/or 963 Hylift, Skid Loader, or Mini-Trackhoe.
- Be able to correctly assess what work needs to be done and effectively communicate this to the residential workers so that it is done correctly.
- Responsible for all PA One-Call (Miss Utility) oversight and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations including OSHA, environmental, erosion control, and DHM company policies.
- Monitor project budgets, track costs, and understand and approve invoices and billing.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure quality and safety standards are being met.
- Identify and resolve issues such as unexpected soil conditions, weather delays, and issues with residential laborers and operators.
- Maintain project documentation, reports, and timelines for the work being performed.
- Communicate progress updates to customers and to DHM administration.
- Experience in residential excavation sitework. Understanding of all residential work including installation of utilities and septic systems.
- Prefer 5+ years of experience with residential excavation sitework.
- Previous project management or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of excavation equipment and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans.
- Understanding of grading, draining, and utility installation.
- Knowledge of soil conservation standards, requirements, permitting, and reporting.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices. OSHA 30 certification.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Class A CDL is preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to effectively relate to homeowners, contractors, and customers.
- Above average skills with computers. Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Able to lead, manage, and connect well with the employees of our Residential Division on an individual basis as well as in a team environment.
- Able to work alone with minimum supervision as well as with teams.
- Be organized, efficient, manage your time effectively, do job planning, and be accountable.
- Above average communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Problem-solving skills and be able to make decisions while under pressure.
- Be conscious of budgeting and cost control requirements.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to represent DHM in a professional and positive manner
- Combination of office work and field work. This is not a remote position. It is a hands-on position.
- Frequent site visits in varying degrees of weather conditions year-round.
- Requires early mornings, extended hours, and possibly some weekend work depending upon project timelines and deadlines.
- Frequent exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, wet or humid conditions, mud, dirt, fumes, smoke, dust, loud noises, uneven ground, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, confined spaces, and vibration.
