Description
The 16th Annual “Sweet 16” Race Against Poverty Moves to a New Day
Chambersburg, PA. South Central Community Action Program (SCCAP) is excited to announce that the 16th Annual Race Against Poverty, affectionately known as the “Sweet 16,” will take place on a new day this year. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, offering a refreshed schedule designed to be more family-friendly while keeping the elements participants know and love.
Race Central will remain at the same location, and the 5K course will stay the same, ensuring a familiar and enjoyable experience for returning runners and walkers. To better accommodate families and participants of all ages, events will begin earlier in the day. Race Central will open at 3:00 p.m. and remain open until 7:30 p.m., creating a lively community hub featuring music, food vendors, activities, retail and information booths, and more.
Family-focused events kick off at 4:00 p.m. with the Raber Runs for Kids 1-Miler and Dash, offering young runners and their families an opportunity to take part in the fun and support a great cause. The 5K Race Against Poverty will follow at 5:00 p.m.
Now in its 16th year, the Race Against Poverty continues to unite runners, walkers, families, businesses, and community partners in support of SCCAP’s mission to reduce poverty and strengthen families. Proceeds from the race directly support SCCAP’s critical Support Circles program.
While the day and timing may be new, the purpose remains the same—bringing the community together to build a stronger future for all.
Registration for the 16th Annual Race Against Poverty will open on January 15. For more information, registration details, and event updates, visit www.raceagainstpoverty.org. Those interested in sponsoring the event or volunteering the day off are encouraged to contact Cheryl Brown, SCCAP’s Resource Development Director, at cbrown@sccap.org
